Effective Project Management is not merely an organisational or administrative function, but a critical factor of competitiveness and profitability for every modern business, particularly in the software development and new technology sectors.<\/p>\n
As highlighted during an informative event organised yesterday, Monday, by the Association of Hellenic Information Technology Enterprises (SETPE), focusing on Project Management and the PMP\u00ae professional certification of the Project Management Institute (PMI), organisations with higher maturity in this field risk losing only 2% of the value of their projects. In contrast, those lagging behind in Project Management may see their project value reduced by up to 28%. This difference translates into greater value retention, reduced waste and enhanced overall profitability.<\/p>\n
The speaker at the event was Dr Theofanis Giotis, CEO and Founder of 12PM Consulting, a member of SETPE, who presented, in a practical and accessible manner, the opportunities offered by international Project Management best practices for the successful delivery of projects, stricter cost control, improved quality of deliverables, risk reduction and the enhancement of generated value.<\/p>\n
He also analysed the reasons why the Project Management Professional (PMP)\u00ae certification of PMI is considered internationally a benchmark qualification for business executives responsible for the planning, coordination and delivery of complex projects. As he noted, the systematic application of Project Management methodologies is not only related to whether a project will be delivered on time, within budget and according to the agreed scope (on time, on budget and on scope), but also to whether it will ultimately generate real value for the organisation and the customer.<\/p>\n
Mr Giotis placed particular emphasis on the fact that projects currently account for approximately 40% of global GDP, while a significant proportion of them continue to face challenges such as delays, cost overruns, scope deviations or failure to deliver the expected value. As highlighted, for software development and new technology companies, successful project delivery is not merely a technical or cost-related issue, but a factor that directly affects reputation, reliability, customer trust and sustainable growth.<\/p>\n
During the presentation, it was also highlighted that projects rarely fail due to purely technical reasons. Instead, the majority of failures are linked to the human factor \u2013 including communication, expectation management, collaboration, decision-making and the overall management of stakeholders. In this context, Project Management emerges not only as a technical skill, but also as a critical area of leadership, communication and organisational maturity.<\/p>\n
Mr Giotis also referred to the value of the PMP\u00ae certification for business executives. As he explained, the international labour market assigns measurable added value to certified professionals. According to available data, certified Project Managers earn, on average, 33% higher salaries than non-certified professionals, while demand for such executives remains strong worldwide. The certification therefore serves not only as evidence of knowledge and professional competence, but also as a valuable tool for career development, mobility and the enhancement of one\u2019s professional profile.<\/p>\n
Particular reference was made to modern agile approaches, such as Agile, which enable faster feedback, early identification of issues and better adaptation of project teams to changing requirements. As noted, the principle of early identification of failures (\u201cfail fast\u201d) and the use of short iterative cycles can significantly reduce the cost of late-stage failure and increase the likelihood of successful project delivery.<\/p>\n
It is worth noting that yesterday\u2019s event aligns with SETPE\u2019s ongoing commitment to bringing its members closer to critical issues related to knowledge, organisation and business effectiveness, while fostering a platform for dialogue, experience sharing and the strengthening of synergies.<\/p>\n
