The human-centred mobile app supporting cancer patients<\/p>\n
Gnomon Informatics S.A., a pioneer in the field of digital health, has developed a mobile app for oncology patients, a human-centred application implemented within the framework of the project \u201cIntegrated Care System for Oncology and Haematology Patients\u201d. The application will be available to cancer patients receiving care across 12 hospitals in Greece.<\/p>\n
The Digital Oncology Patient Application is expected to become an extremely valuable tool for cancer patients, providing them with access to all information related to their health status, treatment plan and the next steps in their care pathway. It will also enable communication with their treating physician through short teleconsultation sessions, while offering important support tools to assist them during the challenging period of managing their condition.<\/p>\n
Gnomon Informatics S.A. is one of the technology companies that supported IDIKA S.A. and the project contractor NOVA-NOVA ICT, by implementing two critical project components: the Interoperability Hub and the Digital Oncology Patient Application.<\/p>\n
The complex challenges addressed during the implementation of the project were discussed by Kostis Kaggelides, CEO of Gnomon Informatics, and Korina Papadopoulou, Head of Development of the Digital Patient Application, during the international \u201c3rd Synergies Forum on Cancer\u201d, held in Athens from 29 June to 1 July and organised by the Hellenic Cancer Federation (ELLOK).<\/p>\n
As Mr Kaggelides highlighted, the Integrated Care System for Oncology and Haematology Patients represents a landmark project for cancer care in Greece. Designed in accordance with the specifications of the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR), the system is interconnected with the European Cancer Information System (ECIS). The system is human-centred both in its design philosophy and implementation, as it aims to strengthen the relationship between patients and their treating physicians, while providing multiple benefits to patients by supporting their navigation through the healthcare system and helping them manage the complex challenges associated with their care journey.<\/p>\n

This makes it possible to leverage information that, until now, had remained fragmented across different systems.<\/p>\n Regarding the development of the new Digital Oncology Patient Application, this constitutes a central pillar of the Integrated Care System. The application was designed based on the actual needs of the oncology and haematology community, providing personalised information, digital support services and easy access to reliable content, thereby making a meaningful contribution to improving patients\u2019 everyday lives.<\/p>\n The first phase of the Application is expected to become available in the coming period, providing the core functionalities and laying the foundations for its further evolution into a comprehensive digital support environment.<\/p>\n Within the framework of the Application, patients have been connected with hospitals, with each patient having access to information regarding their treatment plan and upcoming appointments. In addition, the first phase of the Application includes self-management tools, such as a daily symptom diary and clinical questionnaires.<\/p>\n At the same time, the Digital Patient Navigator is being further expanded with new functionalities and enriched content. Patients will be provided with information on supportive services they can access, such as patient support groups and psychological support services.
