Researchers’ Night 2025
Every year, on the last Friday of September, Thessaloniki hosts the “Researchers’ Night”, a major celebration of science and innovation. The event is a European initiative that, for the past 20 years, has been taking place simultaneously in more than 400 cities across Europe.
Continuing this tradition for another year, CERTH is organising and coordinating the “Researchers’ Night” in Thessaloniki, which will take place on Friday 26 September 2025, at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall (M1 building). This year’s event holds particular significance, as CERTH is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its establishment.
At the “Researchers’ Night”, which will open its doors from 17:00 to 22:00, visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to explore CERTH’s interactive technology exhibition, showcasing the Centre’s broad spectrum of research activities. They will also have the opportunity to engage directly with the researchers themselves, gaining a fresh perspective on the world of science through the eyes of those who represent it. The “Researchers’ Night” will also feature exhibits from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Hellenic Agricultural Organization – DEMETER, the University of Ioannina, the “Anna Papageorgiou STEM Center”, the International Hellenic University, as well as the Friends of Astronomy Club.
At the same time, at the “European Corner”, visitors will have the opportunity to learn more about European policies, research and technological development, as well as the initiatives and mobility opportunities available to researchers.
The event will also highlight the “research for the market” dimension through the participation of six CERTH spin-offs and the Technology Transfer Office. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover how cutting-edge technologies are transformed into innovative products and services with real-world impact.
In addition, the event will feature interactive experiments and demonstrations of scientific phenomena, artistic performances and activities, while children’s workshops will introduce younger visitors to science in a direct and engaging way.
Alongside the main event, and following its successful implementation in previous years, the “Chat Lab” will take place once again. It consists of a series of short online discussions between researchers and the general public, aiming to provide information and promote a better understanding of current scientific topics that will be at the centre of these conversations. This year’s Chat Lab began on 22 September and will run until 3 October, featuring the participation of 51 researchers.
In addition to the event in Thessaloniki, the National Centre for Research and Technology Development (CERTH) also coordinates the events of the “European Researchers’ Night 2025”, in collaboration with the local organisers in the following cities: Athens (National Technical University of Athens), Heraklion (Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas), Patras (University of Patras), Larissa (University of Thessaly) and Rethymno (Hellenic Mediterranean University).
The “Researchers’ Night” will be held with the support of the European Union, and admission will be free for the public.
