Νέα στοιχεία από το έργο R-Map προσφέρουν μια τεκμηριωμένη εικόνα για το πως η εξ αποστάσεως εργασία όπως η τηλεργασία και τα υβριδικά μοντέλα εργασίας διαμορφώνουν τις περιφερειακές δυναμικές της Ευρώπης και επαναπροσδιορίζουν το χάσμα μεταξύ αστικών και αγροτικών περιοχών καθώς και τις κοινωνικοοικονομικές συνθήκες σε ολόκληρη την Ευρώπη.
Η Τυπολογία των ευρωπαϊκών περιφερειών του R-Map αναδεικνύει τον τρόπο με τον οποίο η εξ αποστάσεως εργασία αναδιαμορφώνει τις εδαφικές δυναμικές στην Ευρώπη, κατατάσσοντας 334 περιφέρειες (NUTS2) στην ΕΕ-27, το Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και την Τουρκία με βάση τις δημογραφικές τάσεις και την οικονομική τους ανθεκτικότητα, σε έξι διακριτές ομάδες. Τα ευρήματα παρουσιάζουν το «περιφερειακό αποτύπωμα» της εξ αποστάσεως εργασίας και συγκλίνουν στο ότι ενισχύει υφιστάμενες τάσεις, συμβάλλοντας στη δημογραφική ανανέωση λιγότερο ανεπτυγμένων περιφερειών, και εντείνοντας τις πιέσεις στη στέγαση και τις ανισότητες στις πιο αναπτυγμένες.

The R-Map Strategic Classification of the Socio-economic Impacts of Remote Work Arrangements assesses how remote work affects living conditions, working environments and social life. The key findings indicate that remote work enhances autonomy and job satisfaction; however, it may also lead to social isolation and an increase in unpaid domestic work and care responsibilities, particularly for women. Furthermore, it highlights the need for further research and targeted policy interventions regarding the societal impacts of remote work, such as inequalities between urban and rural areas.

The R-Map project was launched in 2024 and is funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme. It brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of organisations from seven (7) EU Member States and associated countries, coordinated by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Its results provide policymakers with evidence-based insights to support the design of targeted regional policies and address emerging pressures in labour markets and housing.
