The Western Macedonia Digital Innovation Hub (SYNERGiNN EDIH) supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public organisations on their journey towards digital transformation. Through targeted services, consulting, and training programmes, it helps businesses leverage technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data Analytics.

One of SYNERGiNN EDIH’s recent initiatives is the “Level-up for Junior Devs” program, targeting SME development teams in the IT sector. This is a practical, online programme offered at no cost to companies, combining theory with hands-on lab experience. Its aim is to enable junior developers to take swift and secure steps towards the productive application of AI, Machine Learning, NLP, Data Analysis, and IoT technologies.

What the programme offers:

Participants have the opportunity to:

• Apply AI tools in practice, evaluating and selecting those best suited to the needs of their organisation.
• Understand the fundamental principles of Machine Learning (supervised/unsupervised learning, classification, regression, decision trees, random forests, SVM).
• Gain familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and text analysis using tools such as TensorFlow.
• Develop Data Analysis skills with Python (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib) for data cleaning, analysis, and visualization.
• Implement end-to-end IoT application demos (LoRaWAN, The Things Network, Node-RED, Python & InfluxDB) – from the sensor to the dashboard.

In today’s environment, junior developers can become value multipliers for their organisation when exposed to data, automation, and AI. The “Level-up for Junior Devs” program provides structured and guided learning, avoiding fragmented information from scattered tutorials, and focuses on real use cases relevant to each company.

The courses are designed and delivered by academics, researchers, and industry professionals from the University of Western Macedonia, CERTH, and OTS.
