The Municipality of Polygyros is making a significant step towards digital transformation by implementing, in partnership with the consortium EVOLUTION PROJECTS – DOTSOFT S.A., the project “Digital Transformation Actions of the Municipality of Polygyros.” The initiative is part of the Action “Development of Smart City Applications and Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies,” funded by the “Digital Transformation 2021–2027” Programme and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The project aims to create a modern, sustainable, and “smart” municipality, leveraging technologies that enable real-time monitoring and management of critical infrastructure.

It includes three main actions:

The first focuses on connecting streetlights to a central remote monitoring and management system, enabling the Municipality to control lighting operation and intensity remotely, detect faults immediately, and significantly reduce energy consumption.

The second action involves the installation of smart energy management systems in municipal and school buildings, using sensors and meters to monitor energy consumption and environmental conditions. With this data, the Municipality will be able to optimize facility operations, identify waste, and implement energy-saving policies.

The third action focuses on monitoring water quality using smart sensors that measure critical parameters such as pH, conductivity, and temperature, providing timely alerts in case of any deviations.

Through the implementation of the project, the Municipality of Polygyros is taking a decisive step towards a fully digital and environmentally sustainable transition, leveraging Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart governance. This initiative transforms the Municipality into a model “smart city,” enhancing energy efficiency, environmental protection, transparency, and high-quality citizen services.
