15 December 2025|News & Member Announcements|

Lancom, Greece’s leading provider of Data Center, Cloud and Telecommunications services, and ESpanix, one of the largest and most recognised Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) in Europe, based in Madrid, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at exploring and jointly developing a Mediterranean Digital Interconnection Hub.

The MoU marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration aimed at developing a new, autonomous and high-performance digital ecosystem that will connect Southern Europe, the Middle East and Africa through resilient interconnection routes, delivering ultra-fast response times. The Mediterranean Hub is expected to establish the region as one of the most critical digital gateways between Europe, Africa and Asia.

As part of the agreement, the two companies will assess all technical, commercial and operational opportunities for interconnecting their Internet Exchange platforms, enabling their members to exchange traffic directly and laying the foundations for the development of the future Mediterranean Hub.

Nikos Zachariadis, COO of Lancom, stated:

“With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, we are taking the first significant step towards the creation of a strategic Mediterranean Hub – a digital ecosystem that will be developed and driven by Southern Europe. This initiative will reshape international connectivity across three continents and strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty.”

Ο Amedeo Beck Peccoz, Head of Strategy του ESpanix, πρόσθεσε:

The two companies have committed to working swiftly towards the conclusion of a definitive agreement that will bring the vision for the Mediterranean Hub into implementation.
