Digitisation of the Historical Archive of Aerial Photographs of the Hellenic Army Geographical Service (GYS)

The Hellenic Army Geographical Service (GYS) is upgrading its digital services by providing online access to its historical archive of aerial photographs, as well as to all geographical materials (GM) it provides, through a web portal.

The project is being implemented by Information Society S.A. (Kοινωνία της Πληροφορίας), a leading organisation responsible for the design, management and implementation of digital transformation projects and initiatives of the Ministry of Digital Governance. Through the digitisation and provision of access to the archive, citizens and organisations will be able to benefit from modern electronic services, including: searching for aerial photographs and other geographical materials (GM) through the GYS Portal, submitting requests, the rapid collection and preparation of digital material, the electronic delivery/sending of selected GM, as well as tracking the progress of orders/requests through the Integrated Information System.

At the same time, mechanisms will be implemented to ensure data integrity, safeguard intellectual property rights, and comply with the personal data protection framework (GDPR), ensuring reliable and secure service delivery.

Access to the services will be provided through the GYS web portal, with the option of user identification/authentication using Taxisnet credentials.

A webinar was held to present the capabilities offered by this project and to facilitate access for public services and citizens to the search and acquisition of digital material.
