DOTSOFT Undertakes the Digital Promotion of Pieria's Pilgrimage Heritage
DOTSOFT S.A. signed a contract with the Holy Metropolis of Kitros, Katerini, and Platamon for the implementation of the project "Development of Digital Infrastructure for the Promotion of Pieria's Pilgrimage Heritage"—a comprehensive project utilizing modern digital technologies for the cataloging, documentation, preservation, and promotion of the region's rich ecclesiastical and pilgrimage heritage.
The project combines the digitization of cultural and religious assets with the development of modern digital applications and new methods of visitor interaction. Its implementation provides, among other things, for the cataloging and scientific documentation of approximately 100 monasteries and churches and 7,000 sacred relics, the production of professional photographic and audiovisual material, as well as the creation of 3D digital renderings and 360° content.
A central element of the project is the development of a multilingual web-based digital platform – a Digital Museum—through which Pieria's pilgrimage and ecclesiastical assets will be presented in a modern, organized, and interactive manner. The platform will be complemented by virtual reality (VR) applications, a digital map, and modern content management and presentation mechanisms.
At the same time, a smartphone application for Android and iOS will be developed, alongside an augmented reality (AR) system, creating new opportunities for digital guided tours and immersive exploration of the region's monuments, relics, and history.
Special emphasis is placed on universal accessibility. The project includes the creation of a Tactile Museum, the utilization of 3D replicas and plaques in Braille, as well as an application for mapping accessibility infrastructure. In this way, the digital and physical showcase environment for the pilgrimage assets is designed to offer meaningful access and participation opportunities to as many visitors as possible.
The physical scope of the project is complemented by the creation of a multi-purpose digital display venue, the development of an educational game, as well as staff training initiatives to ensure the new digital infrastructure is utilized effectively and can continue to be enriched even after project completion.
With the implementation of this project, an integrated digital ecosystem is established for the promotion of Pieria's Pilgrimage Heritage, connecting the documentation and preservation of ecclesiastical heritage with modern digital experience, education, and accessibility.
For DOTSOFT, this new collaboration represents a continuation of its extensive experience in executing complex digital culture projects, digitization and documentation of cultural assets, virtual museums, VR/AR applications, and digital guided tours. The company leverages its technical expertise to transform cultural and historical content into modern digital experiences, centered on human-centric design, accessibility, and the preservation of cultural memory.
The project is co-financed by the European Union, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and by national funds.
