The Region of Central Greece, in collaboration with DOTSOFT, is proceeding with the implementation of a significant project entitled “Applications Using Internet of Things (IoT) Technologies to Support Local Agricultural Production through Innovative Tools”, as part of the “ANTONIS TRITSIS” Programme and the “Digital Convergence” Priority Axis.

The project forms part of the broader initiative “Smart Digital Applications to Strengthen Policies for the Protection, Safety, Health and Agricultural Production Programme in the Region of Central Greece” and aims to enhance agricultural development through the use of innovative digital technologies.

The scope of the project is the development, installation and operation of an integrated agricultural production support system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, which will include:

• Precision agriculture systems for open-field and tree crops
• Online management and “smart” control of greenhouses
• Integrated “green” traceability system
• Biosensor systems for assessing animal welfare and monitoring the health of livestock

The system will be based on an extensive network of wireless sensors that will record critical parameters related to the environment, soil, water, crops and livestock. The data will be collected in a central information management system, which, through specialised algorithms, will provide best practices and strategies for production management.

The implementation of advanced geoinformatics technologies, sensor networks and telecommunications interfaces makes this project a pioneering initiative for Greek agriculture, offering capabilities such as:

• Remote data entry through portable devices (PDAs) with two-way communication with WebGIS applications
• Personalised information services for producers, agronomists and stakeholders, fully compliant with sustainable production requirements
• Real-time monitoring of critical production parameters through unit-level sensors

The implementation of the project enhances the competitiveness, quality and sustainability of agricultural production in the Region of Central Greece, marking a decisive step towards the digital transformation of primary production and supporting local producers through the use of high-tech tools.
